Fort William Reserves manager Scott Duncan said he was proud of his team despite a 3-5 defeat to North West Skye on Saturday.
The young side, which included a 15, 16 and a 17-year-old, saw Alfie Duncan, Robbie Coltart, Kayden Campbell, Roddy MacInnes and James Gray all impress with solid performances.
These youngsters were bolstered by senior players such as Michael Gillespie, Dave Forbes and Darren Quigg.
An early goal from North West Skye, scored by Chris MacNab, was followed by another from James Coull.
The first of two goals by midfield legend Dave Forbes halved the deficit, but a finish by Gus Macdonald and a pair of strikes by Cameron Campbell could only be countered by a hit from James MacConnel to finish the scoring for the day.
Duncan said: “North West Skye are an experienced and organised side so it was always going to be tough. They have been together for three or four years and it showed.
“We lost an early goal so we were always chasing our tail but the boys played really well and, especially in the second half, we stuck to the task.
“Two great goals from Dave Forbes and another by Jamie MacConnel kept us close but in the end their experience told.
“The most important thing is that everyone of those players came through the Fort William youth system and in the long run that is far more important than any short term results.
“I can’t fault the boys’ effort and application and I told them they can be proud of their efforts and skills. The win is going to come if they just stick to their task.”
Fort William Reserves are next in action on Friday night when they take the long road to Sleat and Strath for a 7.30pm kick off in Broadford.
