Good scoring was anticipated as 19 members gathered at Glenralloch in Tarbert for the first round of the Archie MacNab Memorial Cup.
The Tarbert course was in superb condition, with weather to match on Saturday July 10.
Of the early starters James Smyth set the early pace with 40 points, followed by brothers Bruce and Peter McLean on 39 points with John and Bruce MacNab a further point back on 38.
New clubs in the bag and fresh from lessons by PGA professional Ken Campbell, the day, however, belonged to Malcolm McAlpine, who shot to the top of the leader board.
His round of 69 included six birdies, with a red hot putter contributing to a fantastic 47 points to give him the first round lead by seven points. The magic twos came from Graham Prentice and Iain Macalister.
The Archie MacNab Memorial Cup second round takes place on Saturday July 17.
On the following Saturday, July 24, Tarbert Golf Club will host a par three open for both ladies and gents.
