The photograph above was sent to the Argyllshire Advertiser by John MacLellan from Campbeltown.

His mother – Marion Hamilton in the photo – sadly passed away last year at the age of 90.

John said: ‘She was brought up in Ardrishaig and the photo was probably taken in the late 1930s.’

The occasion looks like a pageant to mark a coronation, so it could be the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in May 1937.

If any of our readers have additional information on the photograph and its circumstances, we would be pleased to hear from them. Just email, phone 01546 602345 or call into our office in Lochgilphead.

Marion left a handwritten note of the names of most of the girls photographed:
Back row –  Elspeth MacGilp, Betty Ferguson (who lived beside school), Georgie Bruce, Sheena Dick, Christina Crawford, Shiela MacNab, Cathie MacEwan, Margaret MacIntyre, Elspeth Ferguson, Emma MacCracken (?), Betty Ferguson,  ?  , Marion Hamilton.
Front row – Marie Carmichael, Ann Stewart,  ?  , Netta Brown (?)
