On the last weekend in April, Shihan Iain Rodger and Sensei Wallace Simpson of Lochgilphead Kyokushinkai Karate Club were invited to teach at a beach training session in St Andrews.

Although sunny, the cold north sea didn’t dampen the spirits of those that trained on the beach and in the sea.

The Lochgilphead club will hold its own beach training session towards the end of August at Kilmory Knapp.

The club is doing well, with local girl Jodie Robertson training towards taking part in the British Open full contact tournament in October.

The club will be taking on beginners from Wednesday June 20 and is suitable for any age from eight upwards.

Classes are: children on Wednesdays from 6.30 to 7.30pm; adults on Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm at Mid Argyll Sports Centre.
