Lochgilphead Red Star 2004s have secured a further two victories so far in April to cement their position at top of the DFDL 2003/04 league.

On Sunday April 8 the Lochgilphead youngsters welcomed Greenock United 2003s to the Joint Campus. Lochgilphead started well and had the majority of possession in the first half. Goals from Mclean and Caskie gave Star a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Greenock dominated the second half and managed to draw the match level at 2-2 before Caskie scored in the final minutes to give Red Star a hard fought 3-2 win.

Sunday April 15 saw the 2004s travel up to Oban for a local derby against Oban Saints 2004s. Red Star started well and controlled the first half with Caskie and McLean scoring to give the Lochgilphead youngsters a good 2-0 lead at half-time. The second half was a different story with Oban having the majority of possession and chances.

Red Star held out until the last five minutes before Oban pulled a goal back and although that resulted in a nervy few minutes Star held on for a 2-1 win.

While not at their best, and missing a few players through injury, the youngsters secured two important wins and a valuable six points.

With goalkeeper Leon Murphy out injured, a special mention needs to go to stand in goalkeeper Conner McMurchy for two excellent displays showing he is just at good at stopping goals as he is at scoring them.
