Memories have been stirred by a 116-year-old photograph and story published in a recent edition of the Argyllshire Advertiser.
The photo, of Ardrishaig Kharki Rangers and the Nicol Cup dating back to 1901, reminded one reader that she had a medal very similar to those displayed by Ardrishaig’s bygone cup winners.
Ardrishaig woman Mary Ferguson visited our office with the medal and explained some of its history.
‘It was awarded some time after the 1901 photo, but the man who was awarded it is in the team photo,’ she explained.
‘It was given to me by my dad when I was young, and it belonged originally to his uncle, Robert Bruce. His initials, RB, are inscribed on the medal.’
She added: I always wore it around my neck on a chain as a necklace.’
