Inveraray has another champion after last weekend’s Baxter’s Loch Ness Marathon.
Alongside the town’s world champion pipe band, congratulations are due to athlete Lesley Pirie, the first woman across the line in the Loch Ness-side marathon, winning in a time of 2:48:10.
A member of Victoria Park Glasgow AC, the 36-year-old also took victory in May’s Stirling marathon.
Mum-of-two Lesley told the Advertiser: ‘It felt great to cross the line on Sunday. I found it a tough course, it’s very undulating with some steep downhill sections which are sore on the legs. The last six miles were very tough.
‘I’ve never run the course before so it was great to give it a go. I’ve had a busy summer with other things so my training hasn’t been going great.
‘My aim was to enjoy the course and hopefully come in under three hours, so I was delighted with the result. Although tough, it’s a beautiful course with great views over Loch Ness.’
