The Square Peg owners have announced the lucky winner of an online vote for bag money.

Mid Argyll Pipe Band came out on top with 22 per cent of the vote on The Square Peg’s Facebook page to win the £183.25 donation – raised through 5p charges on plastic bags.

Pipe Major Craig Lang said he was delighted the pipe band won the vote.

‘We are very honoured to get the money,’ he said. ‘There were a number of very good charities involved in the vote, so we are absolutely delighted.

‘The money will be going towards uniform for the band. We have a lot of youngsters starting so we need kilts, jackets and equipment.’

The cheque was handed over to Craig by Jilly Wilson of The Square Peg cafe and gift shop in Lochgilphead on Tuesday September 5 – International Day of Charity.

Jilly Wilson said: ‘There are so many worthy charities and causes locally it’s really difficult to decide. I thought it would be nice to let our customers, fans and local people make the decision for us.’
