Mid Argll junior athlete smashes record

Athlete Jilly Lefebvre ran a blistering under-11s four lap race shattering the Argyll age record at Oban on March 21 2015.

At the Sports Hall Athletics Argyll Final, Jilly, the under-11 champion, recorded 54.5 seconds, which is almost three seconds faster than the previous mark of 57.3 seconds.

Inveraray lift MacQuistan Cup

Inveraray under 17s lifted the MacQuiston Cup with a 4-2 win over Oban Camanachd recently at Taynuilt Sports Field.

Inveraray, with four players from Strachur adding to the team, started well and it took some good saves from Oban keeper Brian Logan to keep the final scoreless.

Mid Argyll Sports Club open day competition success

After five hours of competition from 120 athletes, Mid Argyll Athletics Club lifted four titles out of a possible 12 in the club’s annual open sports day.

At Lochgilphead Joint Campus in perfect weather, it was Kintyre athletes who were most successful, winning six out of the 12 age categories, with the Oban area taking two.

Lochgilphead Red Star made the journey north to take on Oban Saints in the second round of the Jimmy Marshall Trophy but unfortunately the Mid Argyll football team found the Premier Division outfit to be in sparkling form.

Counterfeit £10 notes circulating in Argyll

Police Scotland have issued a warning that counterfeit £10 notes are circulating in Oban and possibly the wider area.

Inspector Julie McLeish of Police Scotland in Oban said: ‘There have been a number of counterfeit Royal Bank of Scotland £10 notes recovered in the Oban area and everyone should be aware of the importance of checking bank notes in their possession.
