Inveraray jail break

Despite freezing conditions, competitors and marshals turned out on Sunday for the sixth annual Inveraray Jail Break run.

Overcoming the wet and windy conditions, children and adults stiffened their sinews and did what  runners do best – went for it in fine style, with several race records broken on the day.

Jilly Lefebvre Mid Argyll sports hall

Athlete Jilly Lefebvre ran a blistering under-11s four lap race shattering the Argyll age record at Oban on March 21 2015.

At the Sports Hall Athletics Argyll Final, Jilly, the under-11 champion, recorded 54.5 seconds, which is almost three seconds faster than the previous mark of 57.3 seconds.

Young athletes to line up for sports hall events

Sports hall athletics will once again be promoted in Argyll this winter with the first competition for the Mid Argyll area being held at Lochgilphead Joint Campus on Sunday January 18.

The competition will be the first of four local area events being held and is promoted by Mid Argyll Athletic Club.

MOK run entries will go fast

It is the racing event everyone wants to be part of. Entries for last year’s MOK half marathon and 10k in Campbeltown were snapped up within 24 hours.

There are some extra places this year, but those wanting to take part in the Sunday, May 24 event are urged to be on the starting line when entries open online on January 2.

Mid Argyll Sports Club open day competition success

After five hours of competition from 120 athletes, Mid Argyll Athletics Club lifted four titles out of a possible 12 in the club’s annual open sports day.

At Lochgilphead Joint Campus in perfect weather, it was Kintyre athletes who were most successful, winning six out of the 12 age categories, with the Oban area taking two.

Crinan Puffer run passed to MACPool

RUNNERS in Mid Argyll have reason to celebrate as the Scottish Sea Farms Crinan Puffer committee has agreed to Mid Argyll Community Pool taking on the running of the event.

The new arrangement secures the future of the Puffer – a popular 8.5mile run along the length of the Crinan Canal – and provides a valuable fundraising opportunity for community owned MACPool.

Mid Argyll youngsters compete at Emirates Arena

Mid Argyll Athletics at Emirates

EIGHT youngsters from Mid Argyll Athletics Club had the chance to ‘try out’ the Emirates Arena ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

The young athletes were at the Glasgow arena on Saturday to compete in the Scottish Superteams competition for under 12s, which saw 101 boys and girls teams compete in running, throwing and jumping sports.

A number of young athletes put in outstanding performances at this year’s qualifying rounds for the Argyll Sports Hall Athletic championships, which are due to take place in Oban in March.
