TARBERT and Skipness Community Trust will have a fantastic end to 2008 after receiving some very good news last week.
The trust was given confirmation that they will receive a grant of £9424 to progress with their feasibility study for their proposal to investigate the construction of a community owned wind turbine.
Awarded by Community Energy Scotland from the Scottish Community and Householder Renewable Initiative, the grant is funded by the Scottish Government.
The trust have been working on the proposal for some time and prepared a detailed brief from which tenders have been obtained.
A company RD Energy Solutions will carry out the study to determine if the trust have a viable site for the project.
Robert McPhail acting chairman of the trust said: ‘This project is part of the trust’s overall plans to improve our communities sustainability and play our part in mitigating climate change. In addition if successful a community business of this kind would provide employment and generate annual community benefit which would be reinvested in further local improvements.’
The study will be available in March and if feasibility is confirmed the next stage will be a public meeting to discuss the proposal .
Mr McPhail added: ‘This is only the first stage in a long and complex process which could take several years to complete.’
