TARBERT is in the midst of a housing crisis – and many of the 70 applicants waiting for homes in the area include young families and special needs cases.
The situation was discussed at last Thursday’s meeting of Tarbert and Skipness Community Council.
Chairman of the community council, John Hutchison, expressed his concern that housing developers Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) and Fyne Homes have shelved plans to build in the area. He said: ‘Without the provision of affordable housing in Skipness, young families cannot be accommodated, putting the local school, post office and other community services at risk.’
ACHA and Fyne Homes have both indicated that they currently face financial constraints due to the cutbacks in council funding. Argyll and Bute Council Community Service department confirmed that there has been a downturn of 16.5 percent in the Government’s affordable housing investment programme for this year.
