Champion Show from Jenna
Mid Argyll Show 2008
Published:  15 August, 2008

Jenna Samborek, from Lochgilphead, pictured, was the supreme show champion at Mid Argyll Show last weekend. Jenna and her horse, Crusoe, also won the showing championship and was the overall horse champion. The 19 year old also blazed a trail at the recent Kintyre Agricultural Show by winning the Currie Cup for best horse shown under saddle and the overall championship in the horse and pony section.

ORGANISERS of Mid Argyll Agricultural Show were delighted that this year’s event went without a hitch despite the constant downpour of rain on Saturday.

After last year’s show being cancelled due to a foot and mouth disease scare, there was no way the weather was going to spoil proceedings in 2008.

Show secretary David Renwick said: ‘There was a poor turnout, with the gate being 50 percent less than normal, but we were just happy that the show could go ahead.

‘We also had a record entry of cattle this year, which was great.’

But Mr Renwick did speak of his disappointment that vandals went on the rampage at the show ground sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning. One tent had been flattened and one had been slashed, and people had run over the top of another. A caravan had also been broken into, although nothing was stolen. Mr Renwick added: ‘The show has taken place at Kilmory for the last eight years and we have had no problems like this until now.

‘The people responsible made a mud slide and the turf is a mess and rubbish was thrown around.

‘If it was children responsible, they must have gone home covered in mud so their parents must know they were up to something.

‘With the weather putting many people off from going to the show, this vandalism will add to the financial burden we have.’
