PERMISSION to house 23 wind turbines near Inveraray was this week given the go ahead.
An Suidhe Wind Farm, situated five miles west of the royal burgh, will generate a capacity of up to 21 megawatts – enough to meet the average annual needs of around 11,000 homes.
The scheme was originally proposed in 1995 by another developer and received consent following a public inquiry in 2003. npower renewables took control of the project after the original developer decided not to progress with it.
An extension to the switch on date, from March 2009 to March 2011, has also been granted.
The news of the wind turbine was met positively by the chairman of Inveraray Community Council, Garrett Corner.
He told the Advertiser: ‘I couldn’t object to a wind farm even if it was close to where I stay. I think renewable energy should be met in a positive way.’
Frank Park npower renewables development manager for Scotland said the company hoped to begin building next year.
