St Andrew's date for Bobby
Published:  18 July, 2008

WEE Bobby Willan, Carradale golf club’s talented nine-year-old with Lochgilphead connections, is continuing to have success on the fairways.

The youngster has just returned from Alyth where he was playing in the Regional Final of the popular HSBC UK Wee Wonders Tournament.

Having been runner up to past Open Champion Paul Lawries son Michael last year Wee Bobby played some great golf to finish a winner this year and book his place in the Grand Final at St. Andrews for the second time in three years.

It is a great achievement for the young lad as the tournament starts with excess of 4,000 entries UK wide and only about a dozen of each age group make the final - his success is something the members of Carradale are very proud of.

The final will see Bobby battle it out over two days with the best young golfers in the UK.

Wee Bobby plays in the nine-ten age group. He also played in the European Championships in Gullane at the end of May where he finished 17th out of 45 from 37 countries including the USA.

Bobby said: ‘It was a good competition but I didn’t play my best, the weather was windy and my putting was not very good on the fast greens, but I enjoyed it with Dad caddying.’
