DEDICATED volunteers of Mid Argyll branch of the British Red Cross enjoyed a day out in London recently by Royal invitation.
yll, Jenny Campbell, and fellow Red Cross member Esther Agnew had been invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark their 50 years service to the movement.
Esther carried out her service in Renfrew before moving to Mid Argyll recently, and Jenny has worked tirelessly for Red Cross for 56 years, starting in Campbeltown in 1952 before moving to Lochgilphead in 1959.
The Garden Party was hosted by Prince Charles – President of the British Red Cross - and the Duchess of Cornwall, and attended by 7,500 Red Cross volunteers including another eight from Lochgilphead.
They were Myra Neill, Dorothy Hogbin, Marina Cowham who now lives in Lockerbie, Kate Martin, Mary McTavish, first aiders Catriona Chisholm and Eric McVein, and Kay West who was presented to Princess Alexandra, vice president of the organisation.
Esther said: ‘We had a lovely time and did a tour of London while we were there.’
Jenny added: ‘We were up to our ankles in mud because the weather was so bad, but it was a great experience and so nice to share it with others from the area.’
