THE CONTENTS of the former Lochgilphead High School could soon be making their way to the Caribbean.
Isle of Bute man David Hanschell is looking for support from Lochgilphead residents in his quest to ship the contents of the town’s derelict high school to the island of Grenada. Mr Hanschell, founder of the Surplus Educational Supplies Foundation charity, is in negotiations with building owners Fyne Homes, to purchase desks and chairs and send them to hurricane-ravaged schools abroad.
Retired teacher Mr Hanschell, who has paid for previous shipments of goods from other school’s in Scotland out of his own pocket, said this week: ‘These resources belong to the community and I know how valuable they are to schools in Grenada. However, the process of getting them out of the school and shipping them abroad will not be possible without the support of people in the community.’
