A YOUNG Lochgilphead footballer is making big strides of success after winning Player of the Year with Linwood Rangers FC.
Innes Meikle scooped the prestigious award in the under-14s category for 2007/08.
The 13-year-old, who is about to enter third year at Lochgilphead High School, has been a keen footballer from a young age.
He said: ‘I’ve played football all my life. I use the facilities at Lochgilphead, which are really good and help me train for all my matches.’
Innes was accepted onto the squad in October last year after going for a trial and then being offered a contract.
He added: ‘There are scouts from major clubs who come along to some of the games. A player could have been recommended to them so there is the chance of being talent-spotted.’
A keen Hibernian supporter, Innes plays in the Paisley and District Under 14s league.
He was also awarded a medal for winning the Erskine Cup.
