A NEW ROAD sign in Inveraray has been annoying visitors and locals trying to take photographs of what has been described by one as ‘one of Scotland’s most scenic views.’

Argyll and Bute Council’s Pay and Display charges sign has been erected behind the historic cross situated on the village’s seafront and views towards Inveraray Castle, Loch Fyne and the famous stone road bridge.

A 61-year-old visitor from America, who did not want to be named, told The Advertiser: ‘I’ve heard so much about Inveraray but really what was the local authority thinking about erecting a sign directly behind this beautiful cross– its crazy.’

And it is not only tourists complaining about the location of the sign.

Local man, Colin Clarke said the positioning of the large black and white sign by the council was ill thought out.

A spokeswoman for Argyll and Bute Council said: ‘The signs at Inveraray were erected beside the ticket machine because much of the information on them relates to the machine.

‘We will look at the cost and other implications of moving them before making any decision.

‘If we also move the machine then the exercise will be even more expensive.’

She added: ‘The council is aware of the importance of Inveraray for tourism and will seek to achieve the correct balance.’
