Argyll team triumphs at Rob Roy Challenge
Published:  11 July, 2008

A FOUR man team from Mid Argyll have returned triumphant after tackling the 55 mile Rob Roy challenge.

The PSYBT Argyll team, consisting of Grant Fraser, Darren Taylor, Tom Piper and Andrew Wylie, completed the course in a respectable seven hours and 50 minutes.

Taking place on Saturday June 21, the team event scooped a prize after being the fastest team with a dog – Grant brought along his dog Delphi to boost morale.

The 16 mile walk and 39 cycle ride from Drymen to Kenmore saw the boys come in 146th-149th out of 767 finishers.

Grant Fraser from Ardfern said: ‘It was a real achievement for us to finish in under eight hours.

‘I’m looking forward to coming back next year to beat that time.’

Darren Taylor added: ‘With hindsight we could definitely have gone faster on the walking stage, but we wanted to make sure we had plenty of energy left for the cycling.’

The team is keen to thank everyone who sponsored them.

Their sponsorship total of more than £1,400 was raised entirely from individual donations and the funds will be split between four charities; The Prince’s Trust, The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust, Habitat for Humanity and the Place 2 Be.

Donations can still be made online at for the team’s efforts at www.justgiving.com/argyllpsybt.
