IT WAS a hair-raising weekend for one Kilmichael man after he agreed to have his hair shaved off for charity.
Bridgend’s Stephen Doogan joined the big fundraising campaign to bring the Mthunzi Culture Group to Mid Argyll when he went under the clippers last Saturday in Lochgilphead Parish Hall.
Stephen’s sponsored scalping was carried out by Lynne MacDonald and watched with glee by son Sean, who gathered up dad’s shorn locks as a souvenir.
The Mthunzi and Lilanda Initiative (MALI) raised more than £400 at the parish church’s tabletop sale, and Stephen’s sacrifice has already added another £200 to MALI’s efforts.
Thanking Lynne for making the ordeal almost painless, Stephen, a MALI committee member from Bridgend, said: ‘The Mthunzi boys arrive on July 30 and we’re out to make it a visit to remember.
‘A sponsored scalping gave everybody a chance to get their own back on me – and raise more cash.’
