A BOOK telling the story of Loch Fyne Oysters brought back some nostalgic memories for workers past and present last week.
David Erdal’s novel, ‘Local Heroes – How Loch Fyne Oysters tells the story of the employee buyout. Featuring tales from the people involved from the beginning to the end.
Brought up in Oban from the age of five to 13 years, author David has been a pioneer in employee buyouts after leading his family paper mill, Tulis Russell, into all-employee ownership.
‘I have always wanted to write a book on employee-led ownership and to write it in such a way where it is easy for people to understand.
A lot of the books about employee ownership are very technical and difficult to read. I wanted to tell a tale that showed the strength of spirit,’ explained David.
Loch Fyne Oysters became employee owned in 2003.
