MAJOR work being carried out at Lochgilphead’s Front Green will be finished two months behind schedule.
Scottish Water admitted this week that the £3 million upgrade on the town’s sewage system will not be finished until the end of August – despite assurances it would be completed by the end of June.
Jane McKenzie, a representative of Scottish Water, told members of Mid Argyll Partnership in May that the company hoped to have the site cleared by last week, as well as the completion of on-going work in Paterson Street.
Angry locals had hoped the Front Green would be back to normality before the start of the summer season.
However, a Scottish Water spokeswoman said this week: ‘The essential upgrade work that Scottish Water is carrying out on the sewage system in Lochgilphead will be completed by the end of August.
‘Traffic lights will be removed from the Front Green area and Paterson Street pumping station by mid August.
‘This major investment of £3 million in the area will benefit the community and protect the natural environment of Lochgilphead.
‘We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their ongoing patience while we complete the work.’
