SAILORS in Mid Argyll are looking forward to trying out a new community slipway in Ardrishaig.
Mid Argyll Sailing Club (MASC) worked hard to ensure the success of the facility, and were delighted with the support they received from local businesses.
The slipway has been built to make it easier for MASC members to launch and recover their dinghies and was made possible by a grant from the Crown Estate. Construction company M&K MacLeod supplied 400 tonnes of rock, which DA MacDonald contractors used to build the slipway.
Hamish Nicol, MASC commodore, said the slipway will be a major asset for the community and will help to make better boating in Mid Argyll. The slipway was officially opened last Thursday by Roy McGubbin, performance manager of the Royal Yachting Association who also offered encouragement and advice to the younger members of the club who will be able to sail at the start of the season from the slip.
He added: ‘It is a very positive development to have improved launch facilities. This new facility will help both existing sailors and be an excellent legacy for young sailors in the future. I hope that some of the club members will be aspiring for places within the national squads and beyond.’ Anybody wishing to join the club should contact Hamish Nicol on 01546 603245.
