STAR stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games last Saturday as they traveled to face Paisley Reid Kerr and picked up another three points with a 3- 0 victory.
The AOM Scaffolding sponsored side was again at full strength with only MacDougall absent through suspension.
Straight from the kick off it was Star who were doing all the pressing and were using the space well, letting the ball doing the work and were a goal up inside eight minutes. The ball was played out to Asen who picked out Russell with a through ball, the Star striker coolly finishing past the keeper for his 13th of the season.
After this goal Star seemed to sit back slightly and were lucky not to let in an equaliser, as a 20-yard free kick seemed to be heading into the top corner but McCulloch pulled off a magnificent save to palm it away for a corner.
Just on 25 minutes Star grabbed a second as Naisby played a through ball to Asen, the Bulgarian cut inside his marker and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The Premier dry cleaning sponsored side was cruising and every attack looked as though it might end up a goal with I Houston almost scoring from a pull back from D Campbell but his shot went over the bar.
Star were dealt a blow 10 minutes before half time as Russell had to be carried off with a nasty ankle injury, Moore replacing him with Morrison and swapping the midfield around.
Not long after coming on as a substitute Morrison grabbed his fifth of the season, as again Asen turned provider to play the ball across the face of the goal for Morrison to slide the ball in at the back post.
With three goals to the good and limited chances for the home side Star were putting in a good performance but were looking for more goals in the second half.
Going into the second 45 the home side were pressing more with Kowalski having his hands full with the paisley number 10, and already on a yellow would have to be careful. Even though Star were creating chances more goals weren’t coming as Phillips had a left foot shot sail wide and Asen had two great chances, blasting his first over the bar with the keeper to beat and then with a lob which just bounced the wrong side of the post.
Another chance fell to Morrison who couldn’t manage to reach a Phillips
cross with the goal gaping. The home side almost pulled one back, but Morrison headed off the line to keep the clean sheet. The only remaining incident in the game was a harsh red card for Kowalski who was issued a second yellow with five minutes remaining.
With another three points, Star now has four games remaining. The first will be away this Saturday at Eaglesham before another two away games at Rosehill and Carlton and will then play their final game of the season at home against current league leaders St. Pats.
After the Match Red Star’s management team of Moore and Weir were delighted with another 3 points. Moore said: ‘We didn’t play that well although we scored three goals and should have had a few more. On the down side we lost Neil Russell who will now be doubtful for this Saturday’s away game to Eaglesham AFC.’
