A SHORTAGE of members forced Inveraray Community Council to dissolve last week – but it now means that other people in the town have the chance to stand for election.
Former chairman John Patrick told The Advertiser that despite being two and a half years into a three-year term, the community council felt that the best option would be to pack it in and start again.
He added: ‘The sad death of Jim Linley reduced our members to five, and then taking into account illnesses and other commitments, some nights we didn’t even have a quorum.
‘Taking this decision means we now get to bring in new members, and it will be healthy for democracy if we get a lot of people standing.’
Eight seats will be up for grabs on the community council when the election takes place next month.
The profile of Inveraray Community Council is at an all time high thanks to the input it has had in securing major improvements for the village.
A new sewage works has recently been completed and the ongoing road works should be finished within the next few weeks.
John Patrick said: ‘The new pavements are just one of the many plus points to the work going on in Inveraray.
‘The town is going to look great when everything is finished.’
