WORRIED parents of primary school children in Lochgilphead say their youngster’s lives are being put at risk every morning when they cross the road.
Residents at High Bank Park believe the bus stop on the fast and busy A816 Oban road is in the wrong place.
Mum Joanne MacDonald said that 20 children and parents have to wait in a small area with no shelter or railings.
She said: ‘We appreciate there is a bus service for the children but feel this is a shared responsibility, not only by parents but also the local authority. We would like the pick up point to be moved to a more suitable and safer location.’
The bus stop at High Bank Park was only installed a couple of years ago for the new bus service to the hospital and a spokesman for Argyll and Bute Council told The Advertiser it was never envisaged there would be that many passengers waiting for the half hourly local bus. The new joint campus has changed all that, as children are now entitled to school public transport.
Douglas Blades, public transport officer at Argyll and Bute Council added that the possibility of a stop near the industrial estate, where there will be more room is being considered, as well as lengthening the present hard standing and installing a barrier.
