A LOCHGILPHEAD restaurant has been shortlisted for a top culinary award just six weeks after opening its doors to the public.
Edo restaurant in the town’s Argyll Street is in the running for Scottish new restaurant of the year after opening on March 14.
Owner Michael Staniland, or Stan as he is known locally, is ‘gobsmacked’ at being nominated.
He said: ‘To be open for only six weeks and then to be nominated for Scottish new restaurant of the year is very surprising. When I found out I was absolutely gobsmacked!
‘I really could not have done any of this without the support of my wife, Alexandra.’
With 26 years experience as a chef, Stan has worked locally since 2003 in both The Crinan Hotel, the Argyll Arms in Ardrishaig and the Anchor Hotel in Tarbert.
While working in the Anchor Hotel, Stan was awarded a highly commended for Rural Chef of the year.
Stan has also been nominated for Gourmet menu of the year in the Scottish chef awards for his Hogmanay menu while working with the Anchor Hotel. ‘To be nominated for one award is brilliant but to be nominated for two is just unbelievable,’ he said.
‘Setting up the restaurant hasn’t been easy but we’ve had a lot of support and feedback from locals which is great,’ added Stan.
Stan will attend the Scottish Chef Awards dinner in Glasgow on Sunday May 11.
