A YOUNG Tarbert woman will run through the streets of Edinburgh this weekend dressed in traditional Japanese clothing to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer.
Claire Johnson has taken on the feat on behalf of her grandfather, Harry Keith, who was diagnosed with the disease last month.
The 25-year-old has raised more than £1,300 in just four weeks and after over-taking her goal of £1,000, will run the 10k in a Japanase Nebuta Yukata.
Claire said: ‘During my Papa’s recent stay in hospital we found out that research into Pancreatic Cancer is not funded by the NHS and relies on donations alone. This spurred my Papa and I on and we both wanted to do something to help.
‘As Papa is so well known in the village we are hoping his name will help spur people into giving a penny or a pound.’
Harry, 82, is a well-known Tarbert bowler, having competed in the Scottish seniors championships recently.
Harry said: ‘I think its fantastic that she should do the race – she’s really gone out on a limb.’
Anyone wanting to donate to Claire and Harry can drop into Tarbert Post Office, Tarbert Chemist, the village Ironmongers and Argyll Insurance in Lochgilphead, or visit www.justgiving.com/harryk.
