Johnston is the master at Lochgilphead
Published:  18 April, 2008

WHILE Zack Johnston, the reigning Masters champion was struggling to retain his green jacket at Augusta National, Donald Johnston was finding it a lot easier to win the Sargent Cancer medal at Lochgilphead.

Donald is the current club champion and his two under par scratch round this early in the season is a warning to the other low handicappers that he is well capable of retaining his title in the summer.

Tom Campbell was second one stroke behind and has carried his good winter league form into the summer season.

Playing early in the morning with Donald Carmichael, Tom was a bit rusty on the front nine holes, but he was five under par for the second nine which is fantastic and he should cut his handicap as a result. John Davidson was third with a one under par round.

When John is putting well he is one of the best putters in the club but he sometimes loses interest if all is not going well.

He played steady however and if it was not for the exceptional scoring by Donald and Tom he would have won.

Could players please note that the closing date for entries for the knockout competitions is imminent.
