LOCHGILPHEAD Community Council met at the town’s community centre on Monday night for their monthly meeting.
Chairman Mike Roberts welcomed the committee members and led the meeting through the normal business.
The issue of disabled access in local shops was brought up by Mr Roberts who said some retailers were not ‘disabled user friendly’.
Mr Roberts said he expected the issue had to be taken up with the shops themselves as opposed to going through the council and this was confirmed by Councillor Alison Hay.
Sergeant Martin Balkeen gave his police report to the council, informing them that police in Lochgilphead has received 200 phone calls from the public. There had been 36 crime reports, 18 of which were detected crimes. He added there had also been a few ‘tourist-type’ road accidents in the area.
Sergeant Balkeen also asked the council for their support in buying a defibrillator for the Lochgilphead Police office. This was backed fully by the council, with Mr Roberts adding the community council may even assist financially.
Mr Roberts also brought up the issue of fly tipping at Kilmory.
He said: ‘Whilst out for walk the other day I was disgusted to see not only domestic waste but environmental waste in the woodland area at Kilmory.’
Mr Roberts said the waste had been dumped from the Red Lodge up to Kilmory Castle.
Sergeant Balkeen said he would ensure officers went up to the area to see what mess had been created.
The next meeting of the council will take place on May 12 at 7.30pm in the Lochgilphead Community Centre.
