A WELL-known school teacher from Lochgilphead will defy gravity later this month when she jumps 10,000ft from a plane.
Dieta Korbel, a geography teacher at Lochgilphead High School, will take part in the extreme adventure on April 26 at Strathallan Air Field in Perthshire.
The 56-year-old, who originally comes from Hamburg in Germany, is raising money for the Ronald MacDonald House – a charity very close to her heart.
In 1992 Dieta’s daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour and while she was being treated and cared for in Glasgow, Dieta and her husband were able to stay in the Yorkhill flat.
In 1994 Dieta’s daughter, Mindy, died aged just nine years old.
The Yorkhill flat, which has since been superceded by the Ronald MacDonald house, proved a warm comfort to the couple.
Now Dieta is hoping to raise money for the vital service.
Speaking of her 10,000ft tandem dive, Dieta said: ‘I am pretty terrified at the moment but it will be alright. If it wasn’t safe then they would not let me do it.
‘It will be good when I’m going up and it’ll be better when I’m coming down but I’m looking forward to it.’
She added: ‘My husband tried everything to talk me out of it but he’s quite supportive of it now.’
Anyone who would like to sponsor Dieta in her aerial adventure can contact her by telephone on 01546 600123 or come into The Argyllshire Advertiser office in Lochgilphead to fill in a sponsorship form.
