ARDRISHAIG residents are set to form a new community trust to ensure the Ardrishaig Masterplan is sympathetic to the needs of the community.
The Ardrishaig Community Trust’s role will influence and promote development in and around the village.
The trust has already received the backing of the Ardrishaig Community Council, as well as support from local residents.
Chairman of Ardrishaig Community Council, Mr Edward Laughton said residents must ‘grab this opportunity with both hands’.
‘We will be able to make sure that the sustainable and vibrant community proposed in the masterplan comes to fruition within our lifetime,’ he explained.
‘The trust, once it has been set up, will have a vital role in seeking funds to support community sponsored projects within the regeneration process.’
A number of organizations within the village have already shown interest in the trust, looking for them to take the lead in the regeneration and revitalisation of the Ardrishaig community.
Ardrishaig resident Mr Bobby Holden said: ‘I want to see the trust go forward.
‘Here in Ardrishaig we are at the hub of Mid Argyll and we need facilities for the 21st Century.
‘We must rebuild on the traditions of the past and give to the community all they need for the future.’
He added: ‘The masterplan addressing the needs of this Area for Action gives us that unique opportunity.
‘Once the local needs are satisfied, then we will be able to offer so much more as a tourist destination.’
It is anticipated the trust will be operational by May 1 and will run as a company limited by guarantee.
The Ardrishaig Masterplan has been developed in partnership with Argyll and Bute Council, HIE Argyll and the Islands and British Waterways Scotland.
The masterplan provides a development framework to guide the redevelopment of the waterfront area.
