INVERARAY and District Pipe band received a welcomed boost to their club funds last week in Oban.
The band were presented with a cheque for £200 while playing at the Netherlorn Piping Society’s final recital of the season in the Argyllshire Gathering Halls last Wednesday.
World champions in their class, the band is looking forward to another successful year but is desperately seeking funds to help them along the way.
Step forward pipe major Stuart Liddell who, along with nine friends, will walk the West Highland Way to raise money for the band and the College of Piping Building Fund.
The tuneful trekkers, who set off on April 6, will play concerts at staging points along the way, such as Balmaha, Crianlarich, Bridge of Orchy and Kinlochleven.
A DVD of the trek, to be narrated by comedian Norman MacLean, will be sold to generate more money.
The Inveraray band’s secretary Jim McMillan said: ‘We are going to all the major competitions again but the British championship is in Birmingham and the European championship is in Northern Ireland, so we will have big travel costs.
‘Not only that, the youngsters are still growing so we need to buy bigger kilts!’
Donations can still be made to Jim or Stuart or online at www.charitiestrust.org/charities/inveraray_district_pipeband/index/html.
