New hands at helm of youth group
Published:  28 March, 2008

MID ARGYLL Youth Project has a new team at the helm in the form of two young and enthusiast leaders.

Fiona Kalache, aged 29 and Sarah Taylor, 19, are employed full time to raise the profile of the youth project and provide more opportunities for young people in Mid Argyll.

Based in Union Street, Lochgilphead the duo have been funded for four and a half years by the National Lottery Big Fund.

Mrs Kalache and Miss Taylor are also hoping to bring new initiatives to the centre including a youth café, cinema, screen printing, sports and arts along with several educational programmes like the Prince’s Trust Made it Work scheme.

Fiona Kalache, who is employed as the centre’s Youth Project Co-ordinator, said: ‘As the project grows we will continue to work alongside other partners and organisations including Argyll and Bute Council Learning and Regeneration, and hopefully Lochgilphead High School to close the gap in inequalities and isolation that can come with living in rural areas by offering a wider range of opportunities for young people.’

Trainee Youth Development Worker, Sarah Taylor added: ‘We want to raise the profile of the centre and encourage more youngsters to come along.’

The Lochgilphead centre is holding an open/launch day on April 19 to give parents, teachers and the general public, along with the young people, a chance to see what the youth project has to offer.
