LOCHGILPHEAD Red Star welcomed league one rivals Eaglesham to the Ropework park on Saturday, where the home side recorded a resounding 5-0 victory.

Assistant manager Weir made one change due to Asen missing through work commitments, with young Colin Weir starting wide left.

It was not long before Star scored their first, a fine solo effort from Angus Morrison in the 12th minute. Picking the ball up just outside the box, he beat three players before slotting the ball under the keeper.

Neil Russell and Philips both came close with efforts before the second goal came courtesy of young Weir. The Eaglesham right-back tried to clear his lines only to rebound the ball off Weir and into the open goal.

The third goal was to come in the 35th minute: the ball dropped Philips on the edge of the box and he hit a low drive into the left-hand corner.

The second half started with Star thinking the game was already over, as Eaglesham dominated the first 5-10 minutes but with no end result. Star’s back four were snuffing out anything Eaglesham had to offer.

The fourth goal came in the 60th minute from Chris Broderick. Davy Campbell swung in a lovely ball from the left and Chris came in at the back post to thunder his header past the helpless keeper.

Goal number five was not long to come and it was Craig Houston who rounded off a fine day’s work for the Red Star boys with a cracking diving header after a great ball from Campbell.

Red Star’s assistant manager Weir said after the game: ‘I was very impressed with our work effort over 90 minutes from Neily Russell up front (who did everything but score) to Ian Houston at the back. Right through the whole team the effort was first class.

‘I would also like to mention the subs today who all came on and played their part.’
