A MIXED set of results last Sunday saw Lochgilphead Soccer Centre Under 11’s move up to fourth place in the Oban Express Primary Football League.

Playing in their now familiar all-tangerine strip the Anderson Coaches sponsored side kicked off the day against a rapidly improving Spartans team. Despite exerting much of the pressure throughout the game and missing a number of good opportunities, including a Coll McCallum shot that thundered off the crossbar, it was Spartans, with a last minute breakaway, who scored the all important winning goal.

Lochgilphead’s next game paired them against a young Stoddarts team from Oban and, despite a succession of corner kicks for the ‘Tangerines’, the game remained scoreless at half time.

A couple of half-time substitutions by the Lochgilphead coaches, introducing Alistair Lewis and Ewan Dudding, brought more relentless pressure and this finally paid dividends. A Coll MacCallum shot rifled through a crowded penalty box and beyond the reach of the keeper and two fine finishes from Cameron Hendry resulted in the game finishing 3-0 in favour of the Mid-Argyll youngsters.

The third and final game of the day featured the team from Appin, however, they struggled against the neat passing play now being displayed by Lochgilphead and rarely troubled the defensive partnership of Connor MacIntyre and Kyle Selfridge and goalkeeper, Ewan McCulloch . A further goal from Cameron Hendry, followed by a wonderful strike from Keir Whitefield and two coolly taken finishes by Stuart Munro allowed Lochgilphead to finish their day comfortable 4-0 winners.
