WITH only five weeks to go to the Lochgilphead Golf clubs Winter league play off, Ross Sinclair’s win took his total points for the 15 weeks played to over the 100 point mark and he is on track to break the record for the most points achieved during the league phase of the competition.
In second place was Bill Dick who played brilliantly on the back nine holes and beat two other players on a count back. Bill who is our links golf specialist used most of the features of the course, the road, the wall but not the burn and is adapting well to winter league golf.
Another sound game of golf saw Kenneth MacAulay take third place and yet again he did not score on two holes. If he can correct these errors he will be one of the favorites to win this competition.
John Downie needs points to avoid playing in the Duffers Derby, a trophy which is played by the players who don’t have enough points to play in the main competition.
If he keeps playing like he did today he could just qualify for the main event and he was pleased with his forth place.
Alec MacAulay had a level par round, is in third place in the league and I would not like to bet against him retaining his trophy.
Jim Hunter was sixth with a one over par round. He had five birdies, two Eagles but had three no scores. If he is able to score at every hole in the final then the rest will be in trouble.
Tommy Angus may not hit the ball as far as Tiger Woods but he hits it a lot straighter.
He had a brilliant finish to his round and his four points should help him qualify for the final.
David Sinclair hit some great shots but again also chose to lose some golf balls every time he had a score going. Typical of his play this year was the forth hole where he drove his first ball out of bounds into some trees, his second attempt landed on the green and he left his par putt inches short.
Two points went to Robbie Wilson whose game lacked its usual polish after a night out with some polish friends.
The last point went to Andy Law who finished well despite hitting his mat further than his ball at an earlier hole.
