IT’S been a bumper year for Mid Argyll’s first family of motocross as the trophies stacked up over the season.

Douglas Campbell, aged 12, and his brothers Lewis, 9, and Harris, 6, have spent their weekends travelling across Scotland for competitions with occasional forays south of the border.

Dad Douglas, a keen motocross enthusiast, said: ‘It takes up every weekend of the year but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I raced for 20 years so it’s my love and passion too.

It is very difficult in this part of the world and we’ve got much further to travel but we are very committed to it. I’m very happy with the season they’ve had.’

Among a bewildering array of trophies, Douglas came ninth in the Scottish Championships with Harris winning a prize for the most improved rider – not bad for a six-year-old!

The Campbells, from Achnashelloch farm by Lochgilphead, have also been working on a motocross track on their land for themselves and any other local enthusiasts. They plan to start up a regular club and improve access to the track for visitors. Mr Campbell said: ‘It used to be quite big in the area but it’s fallen away. Hopefully we can get some of that back and we can introduce the sport to some locals.’

The boys are sponsored by DJ Campbell and Son, Rock Oil and Bunga Racing.
