TARBERT Loch Fyne Yacht Club has drawn to a close with another busy years sailing.
The Tarbert Toppers have again been very successful with our youngsters competing at both national and international events with some notable successes. The remainder of the cadets not competing at the higher levels showed a good improvement across the board and will hopefully go on to similar successes.
As with many small clubs we have some weak areas and for us this is the keel boat section. Keel boat racing at the club this year can be described at best as sporadic. However, the races run were well attended and enjoyed by all.
The club are hoping that the Loch Fyne Skiff project will inspire some of the cadets to get involved in sailing keel boats. The Loch Fyne Skiff project is the construction of a replica Loch Fyne skiff in wood. This covers all aspects of traditional boat building from the research of the design through to the build process using traditional methods. This community-based project has just started and has a healthy level of interest from the club members.
The annual dinner dance of the Tarbert Loch Fyne Yacht Club took place recently at the newly refurbished Stonefield Castle Hotel.
Over seventy club members including 25 cadets enjoyed an excellent evening of good food and company rounded off by dancing to local band, The Democrats.
Trophies and prizes were awarded to the following: Thomas Trophy Archie MacCallum; Girls Cup Frances Hardie; Margaret McBurney Bowl Lesley Scott; Andrew Leitch Trophy Archie MacCallum; Bent Propeller Andy Peden; TLFYC Junior Beginner Isabella Berioli; TLFYC Intermediate Plaque Feargus MacKevenay; McMillan Family Plate Niel Morrison; Fraoch Ban Trophy Angus Gray-Stephens; Tarbert Toppers Best Cadet James Minshall; Tarbert TAM Trophy Lorenzo Chiavarini; Clydesdale Bank Trophy Abbie MacAlister; Most Helper Cadets Angus & Matthew Peden, Eilidh Campbell, Niall MacLeod, David Johnstone, Iain Kelly; Most Helpful Parent Kevin MacKevenay.
