Tarbert turns on in a torrent
Published:  14 December, 2007

THE heavens opened, the roads were under water and everyone may have been drenched to the skin but the Tarbert turned out in force in the teeth of a howling gale and rain to switch on the village Christmas lights and have a good time on Saturday evening.

Iris Kerr from the organising committee said how overwhelmed everyone was that so many people turned out in such bad weather to show their support and join in.

‘It was great to see such an amazing turnout on Saturday night even though the weather conditions were horrendous,’ she said.

She added: ‘We would all like to say thank you for the support shown over the year, especially to Kenny Brown for giving his time and designing the three trees for the building and Hento and crew for their time working in terrible weather conditions erecting the trees.

‘The staff and pupils of Tarbert Academy, Strathclyde Police and Fire Brigade all deserve praise for their encouragement and guidance.’

Iris said that throughout the year the Coop management and staffs have given their help unstintingly.

She also thanked Luckenbooth and Loch Fyne Gallery shops for donating prizes for the winners of the light designs and to all who helped with the fund raising by sponsoring, making donations, giving raffle prizes and their time.

‘Lastly a big thank to Danny and colleagues from the council for their advice and setting up of the lights in such bad weather,’ said Iris.
