The Sports Hall Athletics contest for the Mid Argyll area is being held this Sunday, November 18, in the games hall of the new joint campus school in Lochgilphead. This indoor athletics competition is promoted by Mid Argyll Athletic Club and Argyll & Bute Local Athletics Partnership.
Specialist equipment is used for various running, jumping and throwing events in the indoor arena and the organisers are hopeful that schools in the Mid Argyll area will encourage youngsters to take part on Sunday.
The competition is one of a series of five local area contests in Argyll this winter and starts at 1.30pm, with entries on the day from 1pm.
Age groups are from under nine up to under 17 for boys and girls with age as on the 1st September 2007.
There will be awards for first, second and third overall in each age group and successful athletes will qualify to compete in the Argyll Final to be held at Atlantis Leisure in Oban on Saturday, December 15.
After the Argyll final teams will be selected in the under 13 and under 15 age groups to represent Argyll at the west regional final at Clydebank on Sunday, January 27 2008.
With the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2014 there is always the chance that an athlete from Argyll may be in contention to represent Scotland in seven years time. The competition this Sunday offers youngsters the chance to try athletics for the first time in a dry and warm atmosphere.
