The Argyllshire Advertiser
Inveraray nominated for band of the year
Published:  09 November, 2007

AFTER extolling the virtues of voting for Mid Argyll Pipe Band for Pipe Band of the Year in last week’s Advertiser, in the interests of fairness we should point out that Inveraray and District Pipe Band are also nominated in this category for the second year running.

The two local bands are up against Strathclyde Police Pipe Band and the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland in the Scottish Traditional Music Awards.

Inveraray were crowned world champions in the novice juvenile grade at the Pipe Band World Championships this year. This was only the second time they had competed in the competition. The win capped an astounding year for the band when they also won the Scottish and British Championships, Cowal Games and came second in the European Championships.

Because of this success they were crowned Champion of Champions and promoted to the Juvenile grade for the 2008 season.

The band also played at Inveraray Highland Games and a mini-band played on the BBC’s Take the Floor, recorded in Ardrishaig a couple of weeks ago.

The voting is at www.handsupfortrad.co.uk. Participants should follow the right hand link to Scots trad music awards and on the next page the online voting instruction is in the box at the top of the page. Pipe Band of the Year is the 12th category.
