THE INVERARAY & District Accordion & Fiddle Club opened its new season at the Argyll Hotel on October 10 to a full house.
Chairman, Niall Iain MacLean, welcomed everyone back after the summer break and paid tribute to two of the club’s faithful supporters, John Ramsay and Donald MacPherson, who had passed away over the summer. They will both be sadly missed by all at the Club.
Supporting players for the evening were Fyne Folk, with Janette Gibson, Sally Hall, Agnes Liddell, Alex John MacLeod and Calum Satchel. Accordionists were Johnnie Fisher, Ian Lockhart, Ryan McGlynn, Allan McIntosh, John MacKenzie and Robert Robertson; on fiddle was Charlie Sorn; Grant MacDougall and Jim Thomson on drums and Flint Armstrong on guitar. They all made up various bands and the audience was treated to a great selection of music.
Guest artistes – back by popular demand – were Fraser and Kevin McGlynn. They did a couple of spots in each half in true West Highland fashion, interspersed with some of Fraser’s amusing stories, all to the delight of everyone. All too soon it was time for the final stramash and the chairman thanked everyone who had contributed to a great night.
Next week the Club looks forward to welcoming members of the Campsie Accordion & Fiddle Club – The Campsie Players – as guest artistes, so make it a date.
