Sunday saw the start of another new season for Tarbert Gun Club when they held their annual trophy shoot at Barmore – 28 competitors trying to add another cup or shield to their display cabinet.
Poor light made the targets hard to see resulting in only four maximum scores in the three matches. John Paton was the only one in the first competition, there were none in the second and three in the third – Paul Williams, Brian Baird and young Jamie Corkindale.
Brian retained the Brenfield shield for being High Gun and Lochgilphead’s Lynn MacDonald also took the Ladies Cup back home. Best improved shot went down the Campbeltown road to Cleit and Murdo MacLarty’s collection.
The pool-trap really tested the shooters with a long climbing-at-an-angle target – not many possibles on this stand. Kimmichael’s Billy Bergant showed how it was done and took home a bottle of whisky.
Results: 15 birds: 1 John Paton, 2=Brian Baird / Bob McColl. 25 birds: 1 Paul Williams, 2=Brian Baird / Jim McKinlay. 10 birds: 1=Jamie Corkindale / Brian Baird / Paul Williams. High Gun: 1 Brian Baird, 2 Paul Williams, 3 Jim McKinlay. Ladies: 1 Lynn MacDonald. Juniors: 1 Jamie Corkindale. Best Improved: Murdo MacLarty. Pool Trap: Billy Bergant.
