THE YOUNG winners of Ardfern’s Battle of the Bands enjoyed their first professional recording session on Sunday.

Mid Argyll band The Anyways beat off tough competition from six other bands in the under 18 category and scored the highest mark in the whole competition. Not a bad feat, considering they have only been together for 10 months.

Drummer Ally Stuart, aged 14, is from Tarbert; bassist Angus McMillan, 15, lives near Inverneil; guitarist Donald John MacIntyre, the oldest member at 18, stays in Ardrishaig; and vocalist Callum Arnot, 16 is the group’s other Tarbert boy.

On Sunday they put their prize to good use, spending all day making a four-track EP with Dave Baggaley and Nigel Frydman of Spare Sounds Recording, Crinan. The recording session was paid for by Chris Piggot of Ardfern, who donated it as a first prize in the under 18 category.

The Anyways recorded four of their favourite tracks: Redeemer; Wouldn’t You Like to Know; High Maintenance Girls; and Japanafunk. The EP will hopefully be available locally soon.

The Anyways are sponsored by Gas Safe, Tarbert and their next gig will be in the Corran Halls, Oban on November 24.
