A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD from Bellanoch has shown that skill can sometimes match experience with an impressive performance at a world sailing event.
Lorenzo Chiavarini, who attends Lochgilphead High School, travelled to Lake Garda in August to race in the 2007 Topper Worlds Championships, a six-day event. Lorenzo was classified 22nd in World rankings, to the joy of family and coaches. His best result was a ‘first’ position on the opening day.
As a member of the GBR Topper squad he has trained hard throughout the year and has raced in national, British and international events.
Lorenzo has had a great year’s sailing in 2007. Thus far his achievements include winning the Skandia Browns High School Trophy at Lochearn, the Scottish Inlands Championships Series and the North West England Traveller Trophy at Ullswater. He now lies 13th in the GBR British Nationwide Series to date.
Lorenzo’s father Andrea Chiavarini said: ‘We are very proud of him. It’s a big effort. Every weekend we are loading the car for another event but it’s worth it. He ‘s doing very well.’
