FYNE Art Club’s recent annual exhibition held in Lochgilphead Community Centre last week proved popular with locals and tourists alike.
In its eighth year, the exhibition is the culmination of a years work by club members, as well as paintings by amateur and professional artists.
Local artist Fraser MacIver, who teaches at Fyne Art Club, was instrumental in getting the exhibition off the ground in 2000, and he has seen it grow over the years into a successful event in the area.
Fraser said: ‘The thing that makes the exhibition unique is the combination of life drawings, various painting days and the fact it is an open exhibition so inclusive of amateur and professional and club members, so gives a great variety and range of possibilities.
‘The exhibition has been a success this year again, and we have been very busy with visitors although there hasn’t been as many tourists this year. A great variety of work has been sold. The exhibition supports both professional and amateur artists because the commission we take, which goes to Fyne Art Club, is quite low. The club is entirely self-funded. It’s a small club but anybody can join, and we have many aspects to it such as life drawing classes in Lochgilphead community centre through the winter, and bi-monthly painting days held at Barr Farm, Minard, where I am an adviser.’
Fraser added: ‘There are a lot of visual art activities on the west coast of Scotland and exhibitions like ours is something which can have the potential of bringing business to this community, such as tourism and retail.
‘The Fyne Art Club exhibition is not just about selling paintings, but also about putting on a good exhibition and we try to do something different each year. The feedback is always positive.’
