THE eighth annual Fyne Art Club Open Summer Exhibition begins on Monday July 23 at 10am in the Community Centre, Manse Brae, Lochghilphead and runs until Saturday July 28 at 4pm.
This comprehensive and educational exhibition will display both professional and amateur works from artists in Mid Argyll and beyond.
The usual life drawings and small studies by Fyne Art Club members - from the club’s ongoing life classes and painting days - will season a broad variety of visual material, including sculpture. This cultural event has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2000 and is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Submissions are welcome from all artists – visiting or local, amateur or professional – as well as club members, which always guarantees a diverse and dynamic show.
Club Card Competition
This year’s annual club greetings card is ‘‘Arran in Snow’ from the Corran Lochgilphead Winter’ by Fraser MacIver (#9 in the MacIver club card series). It commemorates the building of the new Lochgilphead School campus among other local landmarks, emphasising Lochgilphead’s unique and beautiful location.
The public is invited to scrutinise the detail of the canvas closely to discover the hidden ‘golden section of antique landmarks’ as outlined by the invisible axial vectors of these local manmade landmarks whose points of reference connect to form a triangle on the land and in the composition of the painting.
The first of these individuals who correctly locate and name the three icons must present their written answers on a piece of paper to Fraser MacIver between 10am and 3pm at the exhibition on Monday July 23. The first three lucky winners will each receive the prize of a signed limited edition print by the club’s artist-tutor, Fraser MacIver. To help you locate the landmarks heed these three clues: Time; Dynamite; Light. Good luck!
Admission to the exhibition and the contest is free. The Fyne Art Club welcomes all visitors.
