Tarbert Seafood Festival 2011

Tarbert Seafood Festival has been hailed a resounding success by all who attended the event,the first weekend of July,2011.
With the sun splitting the sky over two days,people of all ages enjoyed a host of events including;the annual parade,cookery demonstrations,face-painting,musical displays,Highland dancing,and much more.

Crinan Classic Boat Festival 2011

Crinan was a hive activity as the annual Crinan Classic Boat Festival took place.
The event,now in its fifth year,began on June 30 and finished on Sunday,July 3,2011. An informal celebration of wooden sail,motor,fishing and rowing boats,the festival catered for all the family. With a family ceilidh,mini highland games and free trips on the Vic 32,people poured into Crinan to enjoy the hospitality and great weather.

Lochgilphead High School prizewinners

Dozens of pupils at Lochgilphead High School were recognised for their academic and sporting achievements at the school’s annual prize giving ceremony. Parents,friends and community representatives joined students and staff to mark the end of the 2011 academic school year.

Lochgilphead Armed Forces Day parade 2011

Lochgilphead held an Armed Forces Day,on Saturday June 18,2011,with a parade and stalls on the front green. More than 100 armed forces personnel and veterans lined the town’s streets. Representatives from The Royal British Legion Scotland,Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Association,as well as veterans from across Scotland,including Erskine,attended the event. Sea,army and air cadets were also in attendance.

Sonny the cat found after two months

Sonny,a Rag Doll cat,was found by workmen at Lingerton Landfill site,Lochgilphead,two months after he went missing from the Taylor family’s home.

Argyll College Hair Show,May 2011

From cone shaped dos,to an elaborate fan of peacock feathers,the Argyll College Hair Show certainly didn’t disappoint its audience. Spectators packed into Lochgilphead Joint Campus on Thursday May 12 2011 for the annual event,which this year raised money for the MS Centre in Lochgilphead.

Mid Argyll Music Festival 2011

This year’s Mid Argyll Music Festival has been hailed a success by organisers. Held over seven days,the festival saw adults and youngsters take part in a range of classes from piping,to Scots Verse,and instrumental classes. Although this year’s event saw a drop in numbers,organiser Sheila McCallum said it was ‘without a doubt a success’with preparations now commencing for next year’s event.

 

Big Green Tarbert celebrations 2011

Big Green day in Tarbert saw the celebration of the culmination of the two-year Big Green Tarbert Project,funded by the Climate Challenge Fund,
During this time Tarbert has been getting the community to act together to reduce carbon emissions.
A total of 130 households made pledges to do this.
Many of the different organisation involved in,or linked to the aims of Big Green Tarbert had stalls in a marquee on the quay side and inside the Templars’Hall there was more information on show,highlighting the work that Big Green Tarbert has done and the research it has produced during its two-year mission.

 

Lochgilphead switches on its Christmas lights

A HEALTHY crowd travelled to Lochgilphead’s Colchester Square on Saturday to take in the town’s fifth Christmas Lights Festival.
Thankfully,the icy cold conditions didn’t prevent a warm reception for the music and entertainment on offer,with the Mid Argyll Pipe Band joined by local band True Love and the Lochgilphead joint campus choir in celebrating the big switch on by Jenny Campbell.
